Those who are planning on coming to attend Best Friends Week (July 19-25) at our sanctuary and help us celebrate our 25th anniversary are in for something special: straight from the horses’ mouths, several accounts of what’s it been like to build Best Friends from the ground up.
Though horses will be in the vicinity and will most likely be a topic of conversation, I don’t mean actual horses; I mean the founders of Best Friends.
Every day during the week (except Thursday, July 23), one of the founders will hold a talk, or “cliff-side chat” as we’re calling them, at the Welcome Center and at Angel Village. The Welcome Center is set against the cliffs in the lower part of Angel Canyon, and the Angel Village is on top of the cliffs, along the canyon rim. Either place makes for a great visual aid.
The hour-long talks will be informal and intimate, allowing audience members to ask whatever is on their minds. What to know what it was like coming to the middle of the desert to start a sanctuary? What the locals thought when the founders arrived with their crazy plans? How many animals the founders started out with? Here’s your opportunity to ask. And since most of the talks will be given by a different founder, you can get a variety of perspectives.
The schedule goes like this:
On Monday, Wednesday, and Friday of that week, a founder will talk at the Welcome Center from 10:45 to 11:45 a.m. On Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday, a founder will talk at Angels Village from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.
